Maya joined ABS Capital in 2011 and provides administrative support to John Stobo and Paul Mariani. Prior to joining ABS Capital, Maya held positions with Lucasfilm, Ltd. and Current TV, LLC.

Michael Avon

Venture Partner

Mike is a Venture Partner at ABS Capital Partners with a focus on software, digital media and technology businesses.  Mike is a seasoned operating executive and investor with extensive experience in rapidly growing technology businesses.  With his combination of deep operational and investing experience, Mike spends a portion of his time working with current ABS portfolio companies while also helping to identify opportunities for new investments.

Prior to ABS, Mike was the CFO and Executive Vice President at Millennial Media, a leading mobile advertising technology and data company.  Mike helped launch Millennial Media as a venture capitalist and later joined the company to lead its successful growth phase and IPO (NYSE:MM). Prior to Millennial Media, Mike was a Principal at Columbia Capital where he led numerous digital media, software and communications technology investments and assisted in the launching of several companies out of the fund.  Earlier in his career, Mike held various operating roles in early and growth stage technology businesses and was a corporate attorney representing venture funds and early and growth stage technology companies across the country.  Along with his role as a Venture Partner at ABS Capital, Mike is also currently the Founder and CEO of ICX Media, a digital media software and data analytics company based in Washington, D.C.

Andrew Boyd

Vice President

Andrew is a Vice President at ABS Capital. His investment interests and experience include health care, business services, and technology services companies.

Prior to joining ABS Capital in 2009, Andrew was as an associate with ORIX Venture Finance where he worked on numerous growth capital and acquisition financings in the business services, health care, and technology industries. Previously, he worked as an associate in the private equity and PIPEs group of Houlihan Lokey, where he assisted in integrating strategic operational goals and capital-raising needs for clients. Earlier in his career, Andrew served as a Captain in the United States Army.

Stephanie Carter

General Partner

Stephanie is a General Partner at ABS Capital Partners and has overall responsibility for the firm’s marketing, fundraising and investor relations activities. She joined ABS Capital in 1994 and continues to be enthusiastic about sharing the firm’s story as well as working with great growth companies.

Stephanie first joined ABS Capital Partners on the administrative side of the business. From 1997 to 1999, Stephanie was part of Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown’s Venture Capital Services Group in the Equity Capital Markets division. In this role, she advised clients, including venture capital firms and Limited Partners, on the disposition of their public company holdings.  Often attending daily institutional research meetings and road show presentations, Stephanie was exposed to numerous growth company stories in a number of sectors.

Phil Clough

Managing General Partner

Phil is a Managing General Partner at ABS Capital Partners. He also oversees the firm’s business and tech-enabled services investment efforts. With extensive experience at the board level setting strategy and helping to assemble talented teams, Phil is an active partner in helping CEOs take growth companies to the next level of success.

Prior to joining ABS Capital in 2001, Phil was the president and CEO of SITEL Corporation. While at SITEL, Phil grew both revenues and EPS significantly, managing operations in 19 countries and serving major corporate clients such as GM, America Online, Capital One and Microsoft. Most importantly, he learned the value of setting and clearly articulating goals and priorities, including regularly measuring against them, something he routinely helps his companies with today.

From 1990 to 1997, he was in the Investment Banking Group at Alex. Brown & Sons Incorporated, leading their business services efforts, where he advised clients on M&A transactions, as well as equity and debt offerings. He served in the United States Army from 1983 to 1988, rising to the rank of Captain in 1987.

Shannon Daily

Research Associate

Shannon joined ABS Capital in November 2013. She works as a research associate and provides intelligence on industries, companies and economic trends. Prior to joining ABS Capital, Shannon led the Workflow, Information and Processes team for Circular Energy, a solar design and installation firm in Austin, Texas. Before that, she worked as a knowledge management consultant for Tokyo Electron U.S. Holdings, Inc.

Andrew Doupé

Associate

Andrew is an Associate at ABS Capital.  His investment interests and experience include business services and technology services companies.

Prior to joining ABS Capital in 2016, Andrew was an equity research associate at Wedbush Securities where he covered the enterprise software sector. Previously, Andrew was an associate in investment banking at Wedbush, where he completed several M&A and capital raising transactions in the industrial, technology and business services industries. Earlier in his career, Andrew also covered the aerospace, defense and general industrial sectors as an equity research associate.

Cass Gilmore

Principal

Based in San Francisco, Cass is a Principal at ABS Capital Partners whose investment interests include software, cloud-delivered services and digital media. With a passion for building industry-transforming companies, Cass has spent his entire career advising, operating and investing in growth-stage technology companies. At ABS Capital, Cass enjoys partnering with executives to hone corporate strategy, execute financial transactions and build disciplined sales processes.

Prior to ABS Capital, Cass managed product strategy and sales operations at Zuora, a provider of cloud-delivered enterprise billing and payment solutions.  Cass also worked at GCA Savvian, a global investment banking firm focused on serving clients in the technology, digital media, communications and health care sectors. Prior to GCA Savvian, Cass was with Industry Ventures, a secondary venture capital firm based in San Francisco, and Wells Fargo.

Bobby is a General Partner at ABS Capital Partners with a focus on information and communications technology companies. Don Hebb

Chairman & Founding Partner

Don is the Chairman and a Founding Partner of ABS Capital Partners. His investment interests and experience include both business and tech-enabled services and health care.

Prior to founding ABS Capital in 1990, Don spent more than 20 years with Alex. Brown & Sons Incorporated, where he was President and CEO from 1986 to 1991. In 1986, he took Alex. Brown public. He was the principal architect of Alex. Brown’s innovative industry-specific investment banking units, launching the firm’s health care, technology, and media and communications investing groups, and also leading its Investment Banking Division before becoming CEO.

These focused industry groups became the firm’s hallmark and brought it to a position of national prominence among Wall Street investment banks. The firm brought hundreds of growth companies to the public markets under his leadership and he developed a keen sense of the capabilities required of high quality management teams, as well as an understanding of how institutional investors and strategic buyers value these companies through varying market cycles. While running Alex. Brown, a growth company itself, Don encountered many of the management issues that his portfolio company CEOs often face.

Kimberly Kile

Principal

Kim joined ABS in 2003 and is responsible for managing the fundraising process and all aspects of investor relations.  Kim focuses on portfolio analysis and fund performance in regards to the preparation of fundraising materials, limited partner communications and presentations. Prior to her role in investor relations, Kim was a member of the finance team at ABS and focused on investment operations, portfolio company valuations and data management, as well as financial analysis and reporting.

Robyn Lehman

Principal

Robyn Lehman joined ABS in 2000 and her responsibilities include overseeing all accounting aspects of the Fund partnerships, Limited Partner correspondence and financial matters relating to the management company. Prior to joining ABS, Robyn worked at Sylvan Learning Center where she was an Accountant with Aspect, a division that taught English as a second language. Robyn is a Certified Public Accountant.

Candy Li

Executive Assistant

Candy joined ABS Capital Partners on a part-time basis in 2014, and became a full-time employee in 2015. She provides administrative support to the team in the San Francisco office, and accounting operations support to the Baltimore office. Prior to joining ABS Capital Partners, Candy worked at TD Real Estate / Karis Finance as an assistant intern, where she coordinated the loan and real estate purchase process, and assisted with marketing research. She completed a degree in International Business in China, prior to coming to the United States, and achieved a BS in Finance at San Francisco State University. Candy is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin.

Paul Mariani

General Partner

Paul is a General Partner at ABS Capital with a focus on business and tech-enabled services companies. With over a decade of experience investing in growth companies, Paul enjoys helping CEOs assess their product and market opportunities, optimize their business models and ultimately position their companies for successful exits, either through an M&A transaction or through the public markets. Paul’s breadth of investing experience includes companies in the technology-enabled services, eCommerce, software, and digital media sectors.

Paul joined ABS Capital in 2003 and has been involved with several growth investments and exits since that time. Prior to joining ABS Capital, Paul worked in the technology investment banking divisions of Robertson Stephens and SoundView Technology Group, where he worked on numerous lead-managed public offerings, M&A and capital raising transactions. In these roles, Paul not only attained the skills to help growth companies execute successful exit events, but he also developed an appreciation for the critical attributes that enabled these companies to achieve their next levels of success. These are the same qualities that he seeks when evaluating new investment opportunities at ABS Capital.

Holly Schmidbauer

Staff Accountant

Holly joined ABS Capital in 1999. She is responsible for the internal accounting functions and financial reporting of the management company as well as assisting with Fund financial preparation and reporting. Prior to joining ABS Capital, Holly held positions with Talles and Robbins Construction, Continental Foods and Southland Corporation.

James Stevenson

Chief Financial Officer

James is responsible for the firm’s finance, accounting, tax, human resources, information systems and operational functions. Based on his prior experience as a public company CFO and Controller, he also serves as a resource for ABS Capital’s portfolio company CFOs with respect to finance, accounting and tax matters.

James is actively involved in accounting, regulatory and tax issues affecting the private equity industry and its portfolio companies. He is a member of the National Venture Capital Association CFO Task Force, on the board of the Washington Chapter of the Private Equity CFO Association, and is a frequent panelist at private equity industry conferences.

Before joining ABS Capital in 2003, James was Executive Vice President and CFO at SITEL Corporation, where he was responsible for the finance, treasury, risk management, accounting and tax functions. In addition to his CFO duties, James served on the Executive Committee of SITEL which was responsible for managing business units operating in 20 countries. Prior to SITEL, he worked at Alex. Brown Incorporated and KPMG.

John is a Managing General Partner at ABS Capital Partners where he oversees health care investing efforts with a focus on health care services and health care information technology companies.  During his time with the firm, he has developed significant domain expertise that he uses to help companies identify and address issues, and capitalize on their most compelling opportunities to be successful.

Since joining ABS Capital in 1993, John has been involved in over 20 portfolio company investments for the firm through periods of dramatic change and regulatory shift. John has been able to effectively leverage his health care sector understanding and his business network to help companies recruit board members and executives, think about their competitive landscape, hone their business models, and ultimately position themselves for an exit.

Prior to joining ABS Capital, John worked in Alex. Brown’s Health Care Investment Banking Group where he advised clients on public offerings and M&A strategies.

Ralph Terkowitz

General Partner

Ralph is a General Partner at ABS Capital Partners with investment interests and experience in education and information and communications technology companies. Ralph is an experienced operator and investor who brings a combination of entrepreneurial spirit, operational know-how and genuine enthusiasm to everything he does, and is never slow to call upon his many industry contacts for the benefit of his companies.

Prior to joining ABS Capital in 2004, Ralph served as CIO/CTO of The Washington Post Company. During his tenure, Ralph worked with the Post’s six divisions on all major technology and development operations and investments. From 1996 to 2003, he had primary responsibility for The Washington Post’s venture investment portfolio. Under his direction, performance exceeded that of other corporate venture investors who manage for both strategic value and investment returns. Also while at The Washington Post, Ralph served as founder and CEO of its electronic publishing subsidiary. The subsidiary became known for both its product innovation and new revenue models for electronic media. One of the products Ralph created, washingtonpost.com, continues to be among the most visited news and information sites on the Internet.

Prior to joining ABS Capital, Chris held positions with the National Security Agency, the Universities of Illinois and New Hampshire and Hertzbach & Company.

Tim Weglicki

Founding Partner

Tim is a Founding Partner of ABS Capital Partners. His investment interests and experience include both business and tech-enabled services and health care. Today, Tim works closely with his companies to guide them through strategic initiatives that can help them achieve success, including re-focusing business models on  improved margins, reorganizing compensation structures to drive growth, and advising on strategic transactions that build and achieve value.

Prior to joining ABS Capital in 1993, Tim spent 16 years at Alex. Brown & Sons Incorporated, most recently as founder and head of Alex. Brown’s Capital Markets Group. This group included its investment banking, equity sales and trading, research and corporate fixed income activities.  In his 16 years as an investment banker and capital markets advisor, Tim helped build a knowledge-based, relationship-focused investment banking and capital markets franchise that assisted leading growth company management teams through a myriad of successful capital raises and strategic M&A transactions.

Cal Wheaton

General Partner

Cal is a General Partner at ABS Capital Partners whose investment interests and experience include health care companies. With over a decade of experience, Cal is able to help companies with their growth strategies and give them insights into how they will be viewed by the exit markets.

Prior to joining ABS Capital in 2003, Cal served as Vice President in Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown’s Health Care Investment Banking Group, where he specialized in equity, debt and M&A transactions for health care growth companies. During this time, Cal developed an extensive network and deep domain knowledge of health care growth companies, with a specific focus on health care services, outsourcing and information technology companies.

As an investment banker, Cal worked closely with his client companies to prepare and execute private equity capital raises, initial public offerings, high-yield and convertible debt issuances, and mergers & acquisitions. This role required him to act as the key advisor to the senior management team, analyze the specific business and industry, focus on and highlight the company’s key strengths and differentiators, understand the competitive landscape, and prepare for an exit — all areas where he regularly advises his companies today. In total, Cal has over nine years of investment banking experience with Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown & Sons and Kidder, Peabody.

Laura Witt

General Partner

Laura has been an active investor in software and technology services companies since joining ABS Capital in 1997.  She has experience in building growth companies in the technology sector, working with portfolio companies on the key strategic and operational issues they face.  Laura has led investments in applications and infrastructure software, Internet, mobile and consumer technologies.

Prior to ABS Capital, Laura was a senior consultant at Monitor Company, a global strategy consulting firm, where she advised clients on growth strategies, new technologies, and mergers & acquisitions.  Previously, she was a consultant with Oliver, Wyman & Company, a consulting firm serving clients in the financial services industry.  Laura has significant international experience, having been based in London and Frankfurt for several years.

Tim Zahrobsky

Vice President

Tim is a Vice President at ABS Capital Partners. His investment interests and experience include business services, consumer product companies, and retailers.

Prior to joining ABS Capital in 2009, Tim worked as an associate in the consumer and business services investment banking division of Oppenheimer & Co.  Earlier in his career, Tim was an analyst in the consumer and business services investment banking division of CIBC World Markets. Tim’s corporate finance experience includes M&A transactions, capital raising transactions, and public securities offerings, having executed a number of transactions in the business services, consumer products, and retail industries. Previously, Tim worked as an associate in the assurance and risk advisory group at KPMG. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
